Christmas Morning Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of breakfast sausage
  • 10 pieces bacon, cooked and diced up
  • 9 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups of milk
  • 1 tsp ground mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 6 slices of sourdough, tear into pieces
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded gruyere cheese
  • sour cream, chives, etc (optional as a garnish)

Recipe:

  • In a skillet, cook and crumbled your breakfast sausage and set aside. Do the same with your bacon.
  • Add eggs, milk, salt, dry mustard, black pepper and paprika to a large bowl and whisk until combined.
  • Add bread pieces to bottom of a 9×13″ baking pan. Top with crumbled sausage, bacon, and 3/4 of the cheeses. Pour egg mixture over the top, using a wooden spoon to gently push any un-soaked bread down into the custard. Sprinkle with remaining shredded cheeses.
  • Cover your baking dish and refrigerate over night.
  • On Christmas morning, remove your dish and let it warm on the counter for about 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Serve warm and garnish with optional sour cream, chives, extra cheese, etc.
